Powdr resorts have completed many energy saving initiatives that have had a positive return on investment financially and environmentally. The implementation of energy efficiency measures and the purchase of 100 percent alternative energy has reduced our carbon footprint by 50.64 percent since we completed our first carbon audit in 2006. We have avoided the emissions of over 84,000 tons of CO2 and realized annual savings of over $600,000. The reduction of 84,000 tons of CO2 is equivalent to any one of the following:
Annual greenhouse gas emissions from 13,957 passenger vehicles
CO2 emissions from 8,649,661 gallons of gasoline consumed
CO2 emissions from 177,217 barrels of oil consumed
CO2 emissions from 1,018 tanker trucks' worth of gasoline
CO2 emissions from the electricity use of 10,569 homes for one year
CO2 emissions from the energy use of 6,934 homes for one year
Carbon sequestered by 1,953,936 tree seedlings grown for 10 years
Carbon sequestered annually by 17,319 acres of pine or fir forests
Carbon sequestered annually by 532 acres of forest preserved from deforestation
CO2 emissions from 3,175,146 propane cylinders used for home barbeques
CO2 emissions from burning 395 railcars' worth of coal
Greenhouse gas emissions avoided by recycling 26,277 tons of waste instead of sending it to the landfill
These figures calculated using the US EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator
