Powdr > Environmental Stewardship > Summary of Energy Saving Initiatives > Summary of Energy Saving Inititiatives
Powdr resorts have completed many energy saving initiatives that have had a positive return on investment financially and environmentally. The implementation of energy efficiency measures and the purchase of 100 percent alternative energy has reduced our carbon footprint by 53 percent since we completed our first carbon audit in 2006. We have avoided the emissions of 128,925 tons of CO2 and realized annual savings of over $600,000. The reduction of 128,925 tons of CO2 is equivalent to any one of the following:
Annual greenhouse gas emissions from 22,363 passenger vehicles
CO2 emissions from 13,156,219 gallons of gasoline consumed
CO2 emissions from 271,997 barrels of oil consumed
CO2 emissions from 1,562 tanker trucks' worth of gasoline
CO2 emissions from the electricity use of 14,194 homes for one year
CO2 emissions from the energy use of 9,954 homes for one year
Carbon sequestered by 2,998,943 tree seedlings grown for 10 years
Carbon sequestered annually by 24,938 acres of pine or fir forests
Carbon sequestered annually by 1,110 acres of forest preserved from deforestation
CO2 emissions from 4,873,283 propane cylinders used for home barbeques
CO2 emissions from burning 611 railcars' worth of coal
Greenhouse gas emissions avoided by recycling 39,380 tons of waste instead of sending it to the landfill
These figures calculated using the US EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator
